In the background is the SS United States. The sixties saw the end
of the era of great ocean liners brought about by cheaper airfares
and the universal adoption of the jet airliner by most ailine companies.
It was a time when the purpose of travel was to get from one destination
to another and not an end in itself as is the case with todays cruize
ships. Travel on the road was also more of an adventure entailing
many uncertainties. With a Shelby one could fully enjoy the experience.
